Tune into your INTUITION

I was chatting to a dear friend recently, who was being faced with one of life’s many ‘forks in the road’, when this popped up in our conversation:

‘I want to know if it’s worth the risk. Worth going out on a limb on my own. Just because I feel like it might make me happier and because I feel stronger and more myself.

Accepting risk is one of the hardest things for me to handle.

I just wish I knew what to do and had the confidence to trust decisions and know that somehow it will work out.’

Let me make something clear… no one is an expert, especially in life situations. Which is every situation. No one has ever been where you are, in your shoes, here, now, in this exact moment. Ever. Nor will they ever be. So the person to start trusting, is yourself.

Funnily enough, I’ve been through a similar situation to my friend.

And what I learned in my experience is this:

We are not conventionally taught to listen to our intuition. That little feeling inside of us. The one that knows what to do. And we find ourselves questioning our feelings. Those ‘inklings’.

We often look back in hindsight and say, ‘Oh yeah, I had a feeling about that’ or ‘I knew that would happen’.

If only we learned to pay more attention.

That little ‘fucking feeling’ (as was stated to me in a time of big decision making) is what you need to really practise tuning in to. That is your truth.

Sometimes it’s hard to hear and at other times we choose to consciously ignore it.

But why?

Because it’s daunting. It’s usually against the grain. The outcome is unknown. Unpredictable. And we get so damn scared of what other people may think of us and our decisions, that we construct another ‘story’ instead. Consuming ourselves with the ‘what if’s’.

  • What if he was the man of my dreams and now it’s over?
  • What if I never find another job as good as this one?
  • What if she hates me for speaking up for myself?
  • What if no one reads the blogs that I pour my insides into?
  • What if I hurt someone’s feelings?

What I know for sure is, it doesn’t matter how long you choose to sweep those intuitive insights under the rug, they will 100% come back and bite you in the arse, in one way or another.

When you are faced with a fork in the road, and you’re not sure what to do… My advice is to just stop. Ponder. Feel. Write. Clear your mind. Don’t make any rash decisions. Take some time. Be patient. Feed your soul. Be careful who you seek external input from.

Sometimes it feels like the world might just swallow you whole – but remember, you can always make another decision.

On the other side of that fear of the unknown, could possibly be a future brighter than you can imagine.

Now… actually imagine that…! Is it worth taking the risk?

Because feeling happier, stronger and more ‘yourself’ sound like pretty awesome life goals to me.

To being courageous, Jen x
